BADENSCOTH WINS BACK-TO-BACK AT WOLVERHAMPTON

BADENSCOTH, an easy winner at Wolverhampton last month, repeated the performance over course and distance last night to make it back-to-back wins at the Midlands track.

Bred by his owner, Peter J Skinner, the son of Foxwedge was again ridden by Franny Norton who won on him by two and three-quarter lengths at Wolverhampton last time out.  He clearly relished the step up to 1 mile 1 1/2 furlongs on the 12 March and although half a stone higher last night, it was a case of same place, same trip, same outcome!

One of just six runners in the race, Badenscoth was held up by Franny Norton, for whom this was his only ride at the meeting.  Despite the pace being steady early on, the pair always looked to be comfortable and they travelled in fourth place throughout much of the contest until the final bend when the 5yo kicked on.   The 2/1 second favourite hit the front and won easily by three lengths from Casina Di Notte with the favourite, Cosmic Lands a further head back in third.

This was another impressive performance from Badenscoth for whom this was his fourth career win in twenty starts.  He didn’t make his debut until three and won twice in 2017 before having a quiet time of it last year with just the two runs.  However, he seems back to his best and although the handicapper will inevitably hike him up a few pounds for his latest success, he could improve again, especially over this new trip.  While all four wins have come on the all-weather, he has form on the grass with a third and two seconds from just five outings, so the horse has options.

After a quiet spell earlier this year, the stable seems to be back in the swing of things and was recording its second win from just three runs this week and is now on eight wins for the year.
