Al Wukair 2yo colt in the trotting ring
THE AL WUKAIR 2YO has really come on during the last five weeks since going into full training at Amy Murphy’s Southgate Stables despite the recent prolonged cold snap!
I went up to see him yesterday and also to show him to a prospective owner, who is looking to get involved. Despite having been clipped, the colt still has a great coat on him, he’s grown about a hand since the sales according to Amy and he seems to take everything in his stride.
He moved up to Newmarket a few days before Christmas and was soon fully broken in. Everything went very smoothly and he seems to have a lovely temperament. Today, he went to one of Newmarket’s trotting rings with 3yo Taritino and in terms of both physique and temperament, one would have been hard pushed to have spotted which of the two horses was the two-year-old!

The Al Wukair 2yo led Taritino round the trotting ring and looked very professional not turning a hair. (Taritino, on the other hand, who has always had his own view on life, was being, well Taritino…a bit of a boy!) Amy and the team will gradually step up his work and it will not be long before the yet to be named 2yo is cantering.
As well as having a physical presence and a great temperament, the Al Wukair has a very nice pedigree, being by the Group One winner of the prestigious Jacques Le Marois as a 3yo, a half-brother to a dual-winner in France and from the family of French Derby winner and Champion Older Horse in 1994, Hernando.
