LANCELOT DU LAC ran a cracker at Meydan yesterday under Jim Crowley to finish second, beaten just a head in the £112,000 handicap over five furlongs and so passed the £100k prize money barrier.
The 5yo son of Shamardal was having his first ever race in Dubai and though he had never won over the minimum distance, there was no fluke about this fine effort as the time was fast by 0.02 seconds (Racing Post). The 8/1 shot led two out but was headed close home by Ahtoug from the Charlie Appleby yard.
He may not have won but still earned £22k for connnections, so whatever he achieves in Meydan for the rest of his stay, at least the air fare’s covered!
