DAY ONE of the prestigious DBS Premier Yearling Sales and SOLARIO RACING purchased a good looking colt by Breeders’ Cup winner, Vale Of York for just £22,000.
As ever, the sale was buoyant with the aggregate for day one up nearly £1 million compared to the corresponding day last year to a record £7,823,000. The average price was £37,610, 19% up on last year’s day one while the median rose 8% to £28,000. Ten horses went under the hammer for £100k or more.
I looked at around 215 individuals, 40 of which I saw twice. Action in the ring started early with me bidding for Lot 4, a Sakhee’s Secret colt but it was knocked down to Peter & Ross Doyle Bloodstock for £26,000.
After missing out on a Fast Company colt, I struck mid-afternoon with Lot 140, a handsome, 15:3hh colt by second season sire and Breeders Cup winner, Vale Of York out of an Observatory mare. He’s a half-brother to one winner from just three runners and the pedigree has plenty of black type including the legendary Dancing Brave, champion 3yo in Europe in 1986.
The horse is going into training with Dean Ivory and is being syndicated in 1/12th shares. He will be on show at Solario Racing’s Yearling Parade, which is on Sunday 28th September, 2014, 10am - 1pm at Dean Ivory’s Harper Lodge Farm Stables.
