TROPICS and LANCELOT DU LAC, two of Dean Ivory’s star sprinters of last year have both been entered in the Cammidge Trophy on day one of the 2014 turf season which opens at Town Moor on Saturday.
They are two of 19 entries in the £37,000 Listed race over 6f for 3yos and upwards who have not won a Group 1 or Group 2 Pattern race after 2012. Tropics went from strength to strength last year, starting off with a rating of 84 before winning five races including a Listed race at Newmarket and a Group 3 at Ascot and finishing the season 32lbs higher on 116.
He will carry a 5lb penalty for his Group 3 win but he is the top rated horse among the entries at the six-day stage and on form should be a leading contender. Robert Winston who won on him twice last year has been booked to ride.
Tropics, who cost $280,000 as a foal and $700,000 as a yearling arrived at Dean Ivory’s after going through the ring as a 4yo in 2011 for just 2,500 guineas!
Lancelot Du Lac won four races, including two handicaps at York and one at Newmarket and went up 20lbs from 83 to 103.
