Paul Webber – trains big Saturday winner Alasi
ALASI, the only mare in the seven-runner field for the valuable Carey Group Chase at Ascot on Saturday won the £30,000 first prize and gave Paul Webber a big televised win.
The 9yo daughter of Alflora has been a stalwart of Cropredy Lawn and this was her fourth win over fences and her eighth in total from 30 career starts under Rules. In a thrilling race, she was given a great ride by Dominic Elsworth and prevailed by a neck from Saved By John. The victory took her earnings to date past the £100,000 barrier to £123,000.
Congratulations to owners Swanbridge Bloodstock Limited, for whom Alasi is destined for a new life at stud next spring.
