Exciting Solario Racing yearling purchase
SOLARIO RACING struck relatively early yesterday at Doncaster’s Premier Yearling Sales to purchase a cracking chestnut colt for £18,000 by second season stallion Thewayyouare.
In superb, sunny hot South Yorkshire weather, yours truly looked at over 220 yearling colts from Sunday morning through to yesterday morning and came up with a short list of fine-looking individuals.
Year in, year out, this DBS sale produces quality yearlings and it becomes increasingly difficult to purchase nice individuals at the right price. While it was great to be looking at yearlings in fine summer weather, there’s no doubt, that favours the vendors and prices tend to be higher.
The stats proved that to be the case with figures that showed increases across the board compared to the first day of last year’s sale. Turnover rose by 8%, the average increased by 10% and the median was up by 11%.
Three horses Solario Racing had their eye on went for £40k, £47k and £48k and we didn’t get a bid! However, it all changed with Lot 70, a lovely moving individual by Group 1 winner and Coolmore stallion, Thewayyouare who was trained by Andre Fabre and then Aidan O’Brien.
A first foal out of a Desert Prince mare, he is a very well put together individual, who vetted superbly and who has plenty of black type in his pedigree. A fine walker with good bone, this February foal has a real presence about him and he is sure to be very popular at our Yearling Parade on Sunday 6 October.
The horse was collected by Dean Ivory this morning and he is very sweet on the colt. “He’s a bit cheeky but he’s not done much the last few days, so we’ve lunged him to give him some exercise. I do like him,” said the Master of Harper Lodge Farm.
