SOLARIO RACING owners turned up in good numbers for Royal Ascot on Day Four enjoying a hospitality lunch before racing. The weather was perfect and probably the best day of the entire week.
The event organised by Eclipse Sports Promotions attracted some 40 guests to Car Park Six including Solario owners and corporate clients and from the world of football, former Chelsea legend, Kerry Dixon while fashion was represented by Knightsbridge boutique owner, Hollie de Keyser.
Proceedings began with the obligatory champagne reception followed by a sumptuous two course lunch with wine. Yours truly then went through the card while Kerry Dixon summed up his view of the likely winners of next season’s Premiership. (His heart said Chelsea but his head went for Manchester City!)
Having been fed and watered, it was then off to the course to do battle with the bookmakers. As ever, it was not easy and perhaps the less said about yours truly’s selections the better! However, one Solario Racing owner had a field day and courtesy of some astute forecasts, finished several hundred pounds in front. That takes some doing at the best of times but particularly at Royal Ascot!
Sadly, there was no fairytale ending to the the Queen’s Vase (In Memory of Sir Henry Cecil) as the Warren Place runner, Disclaimer ran with the choke out for the best part of two miles and beat just three home. However, Sky Lantern proved that you can’t go too far wrong by following Classic form and the 3yo filly came from last to first to win the feature race, the Coronation Stakes by four lengths under a confident ride by the Champion Jockey, Richard Hughes.
