OH SO SHARP was a fabulous Fillies Triple Crown winner in 1985. Our own Roman Senate will never aspire to such lofty heights, regardless of his gender but it was a case of Oh So Close, when he was beaten the shortest of noses at Wolverhampton yesterday.
The son of Holy Roman Emperor put his disappointing last time out run at Bath behind him to run a cracker over his longest trip to date, an extended mile and he just failed to collar winner, Avon Supreme.
The Racing Post analysis read: “This slight step up in trip brought about a career best performance.” Interestingly, jockey Martin Lane felt that a further step up in distance would help. This was the horse’s best run to date and this performance will hopefully boost his confidence.
