BARON BAROLO – A FINE NAME FOR A BIG HORSE!

BARON BAROLO was the democratically-elected name for the Al Wukair colt and it’s a fitting big, fine name for a big horse.

Owners were asked to come up for a couple of names each and once the list was complete, owners received all names and voted on each suggestion, an equine Eurovision Song Contest!  They then gathered at Southgate Stables yesterday for a Naming Day.

The winning name was chosen by Mark and Annette Collender, for whom this is their first share with Solario Racing but they were owners with Peter Harris over 20 years ago and had a share in Triplemoon, who won four races for the Dreamchasers.

After wetting the horse’s head with Champagne, we saw Baron Barolo out at exercise before adjourning to Unico, a favourite Italian restaurant of Solario Racing owners in Newmarket High Street.  We were joined by some of Eclipse Sports Promotions owners who were also up at Newmarket to see their pride and joy,  Awtaad Prince.

As ever there the food was excellent, the wine flowed and the restaurant brought out a small birthday cake for Solario Racing owner, Peter Ivory, whose birthday it was the day before.  No, not giving out his age but he’s one of our more senior statesmen but enjoys his horses and looks great, despite being another year older!

Baron Barolo is going to be a middle distance horse next year as a 3yo, so won’t make his debut at two until the mile races start late summer.  He was broken in at the beginning of the year but we backed off him a little to give him time.  Now trotting again, it won’t belong before he’s cantering and he’s a very exciting prospect for Solario Racing.

There are limited 1/12th shares availabe.  To arrange a private viewing, please call Simon Double on 01442 877 597 or email info@solarioracing.com.
