SOLARIO RACING’S Buratino colt has been with Newmarket trainer, Amy Murphy for three weeks and yesterday I went up to see how he is progressing…and to say I was pleased would be an understatement!
After the October Yearling Sales, where he was purchased for 25,000 guineas, he went to Childwickbury Stud in St Albans to chill out for a few weeks. He then went to Amy’s Southgate Stables in the Hamilton Road during the first half of December and was broken in. Last week he was ridden away and reports from HQ were that all had gone well. Certainly the video clip sent by Amy of him being ridden for just the second time showed him to be a forward going colt who was enjoying his work and she said he “moves beautifully.”
It was quite possibly the coldest day of winter so far yesterday but that did not bother the Buratino colt who limbered up with 8yo Mercian Knight in the indoor canter ride before going out to the walking and trotting ring on Newmarket Heath.
Mercian Knight led him round and he did indeed move “beautifully.” The Buratino floats across the ground and Raul Da Silva, who was on board and who has ridden him since he’s been broken loved the way he moves. Jockey Jack Quinlan, who was on Mercian Knight, also remarked how well he moves. I’m sure they can’t all be wrong!
It was then back to the stables for a photo shoot and while he was a little fidgety, he performed nicely for the camera. However, he is prone to calling out to the ladies, a sure sign he’s half a mind on other things…so, gelding looks to be on the very near horizon!
I went up to Newmarket with an existing Solario Racing owner and he was equally impressed with the latest acquisition. He too agreed, his entire status is unlikely to last long!
Solario Racing is hosting a day at Newmarket on Tuesday 1 February for owners and prospective owners to see the Buratino go through his paces before adjourning to the Bedford Lodge Hotel for lunch.
