FLAMING SPEAR has the services of former three times champion jockey, Silvestre de Sousa today when lining up for the 7.55 at Chelmsford, a mile handicap.
Once a very talented horse, the 9yo has become rather a monkey in his dotage, being reluctant to go in the stalls and rather slow to come out. There is no doubt he is extremely well handicapped but the fact is he’s not won since November 2018.
Hopefully, the strong, persuasive powers of the Brazilian jockey will bring out the best in the Spear, who is 11/2 to regain winning ways. The Gosdens’ Mount Marcy is a red hot favourite and the most likely winner.
