TODAY was the Naming Day for Solario Racing (Berkhamsted) owners’ Tamayuz 2yo and the name voted for by some margin was SHARP DISTINCTION.
The name used both the sire, Tamayuz, which in Arabic means, distinction while the dam, Pin Cushion led to Sharp. The owners clearly thought it struck a chord as it won easily by 24 votes.
The slightly embarrassing aspect of the naming process was that it was yours truly’s suggested name! Before this year, I have never had a name put forward which has won. This year, both 2yos, Twilight Bay and now Sharp Distinction were names I threw into the ring and both won the vote!
They say good horses don’t have bad names, so hopefully that applies to the newly named “Sharp Distinction!” He certainly worked nicely today with an older horse, in front of his adoring public! Dean Ivory watched on with the owners and Racing Manager and was very pleased with what he saw.
After gallops, the imposing chestnut had a photo-session with the syndicate and while he doesn’t pose quite like Dancinginthewoods and was a little taken aback at having so many fans, he was pretty well behaved.
Champagne and canapés followed before the owners adjourned to The White Horse for a three-course lunch and the odd libation! The weather was kind and fair so we were outside in the pub’s very large garden for over three hours…always the sign of a good “do.”
The big question on everybody’s lips was when will he make his racecourse debut and over what trip?
The plan is to take him for another racecourse gallop next week and then we’ll look for a race for him. As for trip, that will partly depend on how he fares in his racecourse gallop but we’re probably looking at starting him around 7f.
