THAT’S a nice horse you’ve got there,” said Ken Ivory this morning to me at the stables. When the former Master of Harper Lodge Farm makes statements like that, it’s time to wake up and smell the coffee…even if it’s decaffeinated!
Dean Ivory took over the training licence from his father Ken in 2002, before which Ivory Senior had sent out plenty of winners over jumps and on the flat, including 20 times winner, Dawn’s Delight. Ken may not have had horses bred in the purple to train but he’s always had a good eye for a horse and was a dab hand at getting the best out of often moderate animals.
But which horse is Ken talking about in such glowing terms? Presumably Dancinginthewoods who is working nicely ahead of his early seasonal reappearance, possibly at Doncaster at the start of the turf season?
Well no, not on this occasion. Although Ken has always been a big fan of “Woody,” aka Dancinginthewoods, he was referring to Solario Racing’s 2yo chestnut by Tamayuz x Pin Cushion, even though he’s not yet stepped foot on the gallops!
Purchased as a yearling colt at Tattersalls last October for 22,000 guineas, this good-moving half-brother to three individual winners, was recently gelded and today was just his second day back being ridden. He was in the smaller of the two indoor barns and followed an older companion, 3yo Mazzorbo, as the pair worked on both reins at the walk and trot. The “Tamayuz” is a great mover and just floated across the ground. He has plenty of size and did not look out of place exercising with his older stablemate, Mazzorbo.
This very exciting 2yo by proven Group one stallion, Tamayuz out of a winning Pivotal mare, is being syndicated in twelfth shares.
