LOTHARIO is one of two stable runners tonight at Chelmsford and he has a lot in his favour to run a big race in the mile handicap at 6pm.
He was a course and distance winner back in May 2019 which was off a mark eight pounds higher than today’s 59 and all three wins have been over today’s trip. Seven go to post in what looks a trappy contest but Lothario, if taking to the first time hood, could run well under George Downing at around 8/1. Captain Pugwash looks an interesting alternative.
Tropics is another well handicapped horse after coming down the weights for some time now. He lines up for a six-runner sprint handicap over 5f at 8pm and Sophie, Ralston, who has won on him, claims 5lbs. The former dual July Cup runner-up today races off just 85 which is 17lbs below his course and distance win of 20 months ago. The veteran sprinter is 11/1 to bring back the glory days and if ever he were to show a revival, it is probably over Chelmsford’s five furlongs.
