SPRING ROMANCE makes the long trek to Yarmouth today (some 300 mile round trip) for his first attempt at 7f in a 0-70 handicap, due off at 5pm and he’s sporting headgear for the first time, with the application of cheek-pieces.
He’s become a little lazy at times but the headgear helped in his work at home on Saturday and we’re hoping they can put sharpen him up in the race.
He’s well drawn in 13, there are now three-runners and with this morning’s welcome rain, it’s now Good ground. Sophie Ralston takes off a handy 5lbs but he’s weak in the market at 20/1. It’s a trappy contest with dangers including the well-supported Oisin Murphy-ridden favourite, Martineo, Roman Spinner and Ginger Max but the stable runner is well handicapped and if he stays 7f (five wins have been at 5 – 6f) and the headgear works, he has each-way claims.
Laurentia has gone up 9lbs for her win in weak Classified Stakes last time out on the all-weather and is a market drifter, out to 11/1 for a mile handicap at 7pm, again under Sophie Ralston. The filly could follow up but one could not be confident.
