Yimou – interesting at Newbury over 6f
YIMOU is one of three stable runners at Newbury this evening and the drop down in trip could well see him in the mix in the final race of the evening, a 0-70 handicap for 3yos only over six furlongs.
This is only his fifth ever race and he has shown ability and plenty of speed in previous contests over a mile and seven furlongs. Quite inclined to pull, the dropping back to six should suit. Martin Dwyer, who has ridden him before, is back on board again and at 11/1, the 4yo Kodiac gelding has each-way possibilities in a competitive heat.
Nezar runs half an hour earlier at 8.15, a 7f 0-75 handicap for 3yos and upwards and although he spends most of his racing on the all-weather, he wasn’t beaten too far last time out at Leicester. Sophie Ralston, who won on him the time before at Wolverhampton, is in the saddle but now claims five pounds not seven. He has an each-way squeak at around 18/1.
Finally, Bruyere looks to have a tricky task in the 0-70 3yo only handicap over a mile. This Exceed And Excel filly cost 145,000 guineas as a 2yo at the breeze-ups last year and so far has not lived up to her breeding and price tag. She runs in a first time hood in her first handicap and has Robert Winston aboard and trades at around 161.
