LOTHARIO and Badenscoth both won handicaps at Chelmsford last night to give the yard its third double of the year, at combined odds of just over 18/1.
The double was started by Lothario, a winner at Kempton in March, who went off the well-supported 5/2 favourite in a 0-70 handicap over a mile in the hands of Robert Winston.
It paid to be handy and the first three home were prominent throughout but it was the stable runner who came up the inside, went ahead inside the final furlong and won willingly by three-quarters of a length from Zodiakos.
Robert Winston was again aboard the second winner of the night as the double was completed by Badenscoth, another 5yo, who was one of six runners in a 1m2f handicap. There was little pace early on which was not ideal so his jockey took him into the front after a furlong. After four furlongs, Gerald Mosse, the jockey on board, the favourite, Global Art decided to go to the head of affairs and inject some pace. Badenscoth sat behind and took it up again a furlong from home, running on to win by 1 3/4 lengths from the jolly.
Harper Lodge Farm nearly completed a Chelmsford treble after 25/1 shot, Dors Law came with a wet sail to come second in another 10 furlong handicap, under 7lb claimer, Sophie Ralston. It was a fast diminishing head at the line behind the winner, Muraaqeb.
The yard send out four runners last night and it was nearly a glorious start for the stable as nine-times all-weather winner, Tangramm, sent off at 50/1 for just his third turf start,at Sandown, came second in another 1m2f handicap, under Ryan Tate, beaten 3/4 length.
It was a very good day for the yard but oh so nearly a superb day!
