“WOODY”, aka and officially Dancinginthewoods, has come out of his Newmarket success in good order. The 15,000 guineas son of Garswood, a half-brother to five individual winners, barely had a race.
Sent off at the remarkably generous odds of 50/1, this very likeable colt, fully syndicated in 1/4 shares, won what looked a fair novice auction stakes over 6f by a short head, from previous winner, Apollinaire. The shape of the race in terms of those who were in the firing line looks solid.
Gallaside, from the Archie Watson yard, which has had 12 juvenile wins already this season, finished third, 7/2 joint-favourite while the other joint-favourite, Hamish Macbeth, was fifth, beaten just 2 1/2 lengths.
“Woody” was unfancied in the betting ring, comes from a yard which is not known for 2yo winners, was bought for a song and is not owned by a big racing battalion. So, he’s probably gone under the radar…or has he?
There have been enquiries for “Woody” from Hong Kong and the States. The horse is not currently for sale but the Owners in Solario Racing (Ashridge) have reinsured their horse!
One experienced rider and former jockey, at Harper Lodge Farm commented at the week end, “I haven’t seen a 2yo win like that in a long time.”
Horses can make fools of you and it would be easy to get carried away. However, Solario Racing thinks it has an above average horse on its hands and we’ll be looking to go to some nice tracks this year, either at home or abroad.
The big questions are where do we go and over what trip? It looks for all the world as though he’ll get 7f very soon and the dam’s side with five winners, mostly over 1m+ would suggest that.
As for his next outing? Watch this space!
