BADENSCOTH WINS AT WOLVES TO BREAK DROUGHT

Badenscoth - a welcome winner at Wolverhampton

Badenscoth – a welcome winner at Wolverhampton

BADENSCOTH won at Wolverhampton tonight and it was a welcome winner for the yard after an unusually dry spell with no success in the last 47 days.

The five-year-old son of Foxwedge was stepping up in trip to one mile, one and a half furlongs for the first time and he clearly relished the extra distance as he ran out a comfortable winner by 2 3/4 lengths under Franny Norton who was riding him for the second time.

Held up for most of the race, Badenscoth made headway a furlong out, was shaken up and despite edging left inside the final furlong, he soon went clear to record an easy success, his third in just nineteen career starts.

He didn’t make his racecourse debut until three but soon made up for lost time when winning on his handicap debut at Kempton in April 2017.  Three months later, he followed up at Chelmsford but despite some placed efforts, he hasn’t shown his true colours until last time out at Kempton when he was fourth under Franny Norton, who was on board for the first time.

The promise he showed that day was not lost on the Racing Post who said: “Badenscoth was an eye-catcher.  He’s dangerously well handicapped as a result of losing his way and now looks to be on his way back.”

Badenscoth only had two runs last year but hopefully, his win today will start a resurgence in his fortunes for his owner/breeder, Peter J Skinner.

After the yard made a great start to 2019 with four wins in just over three weeks, the winners dried up during the latter part of January and throughout February.  While they have not been running badly, they could have been running better.  Harper Lodge Farm’s last winner was Sir Prize on 23rd January, so it was great to be back in the Winner’s Enclosure!
