KIRBY BOOKING ON LANCE GIVES EDGE OVER TROPICS

Lancelot Du Lac – runs at Wolves (6.10pm)

DEAN runs two of his star sprinters in the same race tonight at Wolverhampton, Lancelot Du Lac and Tropics, who both line up for the 6.10, a Class 2 handicap over 5f and the booking of Adam Kirby for the former gives him a possible edge over the veteran Tropics.

Lance does need to bounce back to form after a rather lack-lustre performance last time out at Lingfield although he was returning after a 140-day absence and probably needed the run.  His last win was in April of last year when off a mark of 110 and today he runs off 107 and with a good draw (three of eight) he looks interesting each-way at 9/1.

Tropics isn’t getting any younger but still retains plenty of ability.  A winner at Chelmsford in the New Year, he disappointed at Newcastle last time out but would have had a long journey up north before running.  He’s weak in the market at 16/1 but Jack Duern, who has won on him before, rides, claiming three and again he might just be overpriced.  In an intriguing heat, Shamshon and Doctor Sardonicus look two of the principal dangers.

At Chelmsford in the lucky last, due off at 8.25pm, Classic Charm bids to break his duck in the mile handicap under Shane Kelly.  He went off 3/1 favourite at the track over 7f last time out and was seventh of ten, beaten five lengths.  Trading at 9/2, he could figure but it’s difficult to get too enthusiastic about his chances especially with a warm even favourite in  Cashel.
