RED COSSACK, who appeared not to stay 1m4f two and a half weeks ago at Kempton, drops back in trip to 1m 1/2f at Wolverhampton this afternoon in the 2.05 and the shorter distance should suit.
He is joint-second best off at the weights in this Classified Stakes for 3yos+ rated 0-50 and despite being drawn 11 of 11 and going left-handed (all his best form is at Kempton), he still has a good each-way chance at around 4/1 under Jack Duern. Whimsical Dream and Zorawar look the chief dangers.
Dean also runs Tangramm at Dunstall Park and this course specialist runs in the 4.10, a handicap over 1m 1/2f, a distance over which he has won three times at the track. He ran disappointingly at Kempton last time out after a long break and again goes without headgear which he normally sports but he’s below a winning mark and if the run two weeks ago has brought him on, he too has an each-way chance at 10/1. Jack Duern takes the ride in an open race in which Francophilia and Destiny’s Rock are two of Tangramm’s principal rivals.
