DON’T LOOK DOWN PLEASES ON DEBUT

DON’T LOOK DOWN, owned by the Solario Racing (Tring) syndicate ran a race full of promise on his debut last night when fourth at Wolverhampton.

One of 13 runners in a novice median auction for three and four-year-olds, the grey went into the race with a few things not in his favour, notably trip, course and draw.

A fine stamp of a horse by Aussie Rules out of a Rainbow Quest mare and whose siblings include winners over 1m4f – 2 miles, the 1m 1 1/2 furlong distance was always going to be on the short side.

Wolverhampton has a lovely Tapeta surface but it’s quite a tight track for a long-striding galloper, so Dunstall Park was never going to be ideal.

Finally, drawn 11 of 13 isn’t great at Wolves, whether it’s a sprint or a nine furlong plus race.

Add to that, the lack of previous racecourse experience and Don’t Look Down was always going to be up against it!  On the plus side, he’d been working well at home and that showed up in spades during the latter stages of the race.

Last for the first half mile, he made gradual progress but on the final bend, he still had nine horses in front of him.  However, on seeing daylight and with some encouragement from stable jockey, Jack Duern, the horse really started to get into gear and was the fastest finisher.

Solario Racing (Tring) owners were delighted with the performance as were jockey and trainer.  I was up at Harper Lodge Farm this morning and Dean had a grin from ear to ear!

Don’t Look Down is a very nice horse with a very bright future.  Another share was sold in him this morning but there are limited shares available.  Please call the Racing Office on 01442 877 597 or email info@solarioracing.com to arrange a private viewing on the gallops or for a free colour brochure.
