“AND Spring Romance hits the front and will do it again. Four wins from the last five starts. A winning machine, Spring Romance and he won with authority as well.”
Those were the Attheraces commentator’s words in the closing stages of another fantastic win by Solario Racing’s star, Spring Romance after he justified 5/2 favouritism in a 6f handicap at Lingfield yesterday.
Only seven went to post and “Neville” was drawn well in three. However, he was running off a 23lb higher mark than when he first won at Wolverhampton in February and as his usual jockey, Jack Duern, was unable to ride, we didn’t have the advantage of a three pound claim. Nevertheless, Robert Winston was a more than able deputy and rode him with supreme confidence.
He jumped well but there was plenty of pace on, so Robert let him get a lead. He tracked the two leaders and began his challenge in the home straight. Inside the final furlong, he hit the front and won by 2 1/4 lengths going away from runner-up, Global Excel.
This was visually an impressive performance and the son of Zebedee won a shade cosily. No doubt this will not have escaped the handicapper and one would expect the horse to be rated in the mid-70s this time next week.
Solario Racing (Berkhamsted) Owners were out in force at Lingfield and are definitely enjoying the winning habit! Who would have thought at the beginning of the year, that Spring Romance would have won four out of five and climbed the handicap from 45 to 68 before the season is even half way through?
Not only was this another great training performance by the Master of Harper Lodge Farm, Dean Ivory but a big thank you should go to lass, Alex Humphreys, who said to Dean a week ago that the horse did not seem in quite the same shape as when he won at Windsor. So the horse missed Nottingham and was given another week. Thank you Alex!
