Trophy presentation for sponsored race

SOLARIO RACING sponsored the first race on the card at Windsor last night, The Solario Racing Personal Racehorse Syndication Handicap and the winner was Quick Breath.

What was probably most remarkable about the evening was that the official going was Good, good to soft in places.  Windsor racecourse barely had a drop of rain on the Sunday or yesterday despite amber weather warnings and predictions of up to 31mm of rain on the day of racing.  Parts of London were hit and two miles from Windsor suffered but the widely predicted deluge never appeared.

Nine runners lined up for the Solario Racing sponsored race, a three-year-old handicap over six furlongs and the first duty for yours truly was to award the Best Turned Out.  It was rather straightforward as number eight on the card, Peggy Sue, trained by Adam West in Epsom looked good in her coat and was the only runner whose mane and tail were both plaited.  She was rather a slight filly and was on her toes but she was the obvious choice and her lass thoroughly deserved the Best Turned Out £50 prize.

The race winner, Quick Breath, was the subject of strong market support and was backed from 11/2 into 3/1 joint-favouritism on course, having been10/1 in the morning.  The horse was always in contention and won by a length and a half.  Trained by Jonathan Portman and ridden by Richard Kingscote, it was nice to see the sponsored race going to a syndicate, in this case, the Wood Street Syndicate.

Racing is certainly a small world as it transpired that one of the syndicate had worked with the late Tom Donaldson, who had shares with Peter Harris and Pat Eddery Racing, including the highly successful and profitable, Group One winner, Hearts Of Fire.
