Eirene – runs in the Nell Gwyn
EIRENE, one of the stable juvenile sprinting stars of last year tests her stamina today along with her 1000 Guineas credentials when stepping up to 7f for the Nell Gwyn at Newmarket today (3.35pm).
Eleven go to post for this historic Classic trial and the daughter of Declarationi Of War, winner of the Listed St Hugh’s’ Stakes last season over 5f has to prove her stamina in a quality field.
She’s been working well and is clearly talented and at 20/1, she’s worth a look each-way. Robert Winston takes the ride in a race in which principal dangers include Threading and Soliloquy.
The stable’s other runner today is in the 7.45 at Kempton when Hugs And Pats lines up in a 3yo novice stakes. The son of Big Bad Bob had just one run last year when nearer last than fast. This is a tougher contest and hence the mount of Jack Duern is a 40/1 shot. He’s got to improve to beat the likes of the 86-rated Barton Mills.
