ROMAN LEGION went to Kempton yesterday for a racecourse gallop as part of a six-strong team.
The lightly-raced 3yo son of Holy Roman Emperor has not raced since January but is not far off a run and Dean Ivory wanted to sharpen him up with a spin on the racecourse.
After all six Harper Lodge Farm horses limbered up in the pre-parade ring, they did a lap of the course in walk and then worked in pairs.
“Roman” went with Harlequin Striker, a five-times winning 5yo son of Bahamian Bounty, rated 23 lbs higher than the SolarIo Racing 3yo
He worked over a mile and went nicely. While he didn’t “win” the gallop, he wasn’t far behind his older, more experienced and higher-rated companion.
Dean was delighted with “Roman’s” work and will enter him up soon.
