SECRET BIRD was Dean Ivory’s 36th win of the year when defying a very wide draw at Chelmsford today to record his second career win under promising apprentice Lulu Stanford.
Lulu, who was having her first ride for Dean, in the 14-runner apprentice sprint, rode a finely judge race, getting the horse into contention early on and then dictating terms from the front to finish half a length in front at the death. This was her 16th winner of the year from just 112 rides.
Dean was full of praise for Lulu, not only for the intelligent ride but also for the fact that she had done her homework and diligently sought the advice of previous jockeys on how best to ride him.
On behalf of Solario Racing, well done for a real team effort which led to Dean’s third best tally of winners since he took out a licence in 2002. In terms of prize money, this is his best ever season with over £600k won for his owners.
