JIM CROWLEY is now seven ahead of defending title-holder, Silvestre De Sousa, having notched another winner this evening at Wolverhampton, albeit a dead-heat. So can he be caught?
The flat jockeys’ championship ends on Champions Day on 15th October which means there are just 18 days of racing left for the Brazilian to regain his title. Both jockeys have ridden plenty of doubles and trebles during recent weeks and even within the last month, Silvestre rode a four-timer.
However, the pendulum may be swinging Jim’s way as during the last 14 days racing, Silvestre has ridden 17 winners while Jim has ridden 21. Moreover, it is now 16 rides since Silvestre has ridden a winner.
The two jockeys were head to head at Dunstall Park today but tomorrow they go their separate ways. The reigning champion has seven rides at Nottingham while the “Old Pretender” has six rides at Salisbury and then four at Kempton. So statistically, Jim has a greater chance of extending his lead. But what say the bookies?
It looks a done deal with JC as short as 1/5 while SDS is a best-priced 100/30. They say a week’s a long time in politics, so Solario Racing asks how long does that make two and a half weeks in a jockeys’ championship?
The bookies got the last General Election and the Euro Referendum wrong. Could they be wrong again…?
