LIBRISA BREEZE won the International Stakes at Ascot yesterday and in securing the £93,000 first prize, gave Dean Ivory his biggest and most prestigious win of the year so far.
There was concern about the Good to Firm ground beforehand but any fears were soon dispelled by a comfortable win by the four-year-old grey, who was making amends for an unlucky second in the Royal Hunt Cup when drawn on the “wrong” side.
Robert Winston gave the Mount Nelson gelding a great ride and the 4/1 favourite was always travelling well. Taking it up a furlong from home, the pair won nicely by a length and a half from Squats.
Rated 100 going into the race, Librisa will go up several pounds in the handicap and deserves a crack at a Group contest. This was the horse’s fourth win in just nine races but the second in only four starts for professional poker player and Chairman of Brighton Football Club, Tony Bloom and Dean Ivory.
The win brought Dean close to £400,000 in prize money this year and with plenty of good prize money on offer throughout the second half of the season, there is every chance Harper Lodge Farm will achieve another record year.
