AMERICAN “DREAM” IN BROCKLESBY FOR START OF TURF

Frankie Dettori – rides Create A Dream

THE 2016 turf season starts for real tomorrow with the traditional curtain raiser, the Lincoln meeting at Doncaster and there’s an exciting added dimension with a Wes Ward runner from America in the Brocklesby.

Yes, the turf season has already had one meeting with a rather under the radar fixture at Redcar last Monday but traditionalists and purists will herald the start of the new turf season tomorrow and rightly so.

American trainer, Wesley A Ward, is no stranger to success at Royal Ascot but tomorrow he sends over two juveniles, one at Donny and another at Kempton.  His runner at Town Moor is Create A Dream, an Oasis Dream filly and the 5/4 favourite will be ridden by Frankie Dettori.

Hearts Of Fire

Hearts Of Fire

The Brocklesby used to be the first 2yo race of the season but with all-weather racing, that is no longer the case.  Nevertheless, the race has fond memories for yours truly as seven years ago, Hearts Of Fire, trained by the late Pat Eddery, won a 19-runner affair by 2 1/4 lengths under Paul Eddery.  He went on to win a Listed, Group 3 and Group One in France, Germany and Italy respectively in the same year before coming third the following season in the St James’ Palace Stakes behind Canford Cliffs and Dick Turpin.

Purchased by Pat and me for just £13,000 as a yearling, he won £326,000 in prize money and was sold at Tattersalls for 550,000 guineas, the second highest ever figure at that sale.

Will Create A Dream live up to her name and maybe scale the heights of Hearts Of Fire? The trainer holds her in the highest regard, saying she’s as good in her homework as those he’s taken to Royal Ascot.

Tomorrow at 4.30, the hype stops and we’ll see if she’s as good in the afternoon as she is in the morning.
