RED COSSACK defied a 95 day absence to win for his patient owners, Solario Racing (Banbury) in emphatic fashion at Kempton this evening.
The 4yo son of Rebellion has always had ability but has not been easy to train and has often needed time between his races. However, he does like Kempton, having previously been second, third and fourth at the Sunbury track in seven previous outings.
Tonight, he was sporting the usual hood with a first time tongue tie and he had William Carson on board for the first time. Things did not quite go to plan at the start when he was awkwardly away. However, he settled in mid-division, travelling nicely and made headway two furlongs out. A furlong from home, he hit the front and won by two lengths going away. Today’s trip was over 7f but he looks for all the world as though he’ll appreciate and will get a mile.
This was an excellent training performance from Paul Webber, although Paul was quick to heap praise on “Rebel’s” lad, Danny Hannig who has done such a good job with him during three seasons.
Needless to say, Solario Racing (Banbury) owners made plenty of noise as the horse passed the winning post in front and they also enjoyed the odd glass of champagne afterwards!
