CROPREDY LAWN RACING held its summer garden party yesterday hosted by Paul and Ku Webber and with perfect July sunny, warm weather, around 20 owners and guests enjoyed a wonderful relaxing afternoon.
Proceedings started at 11am with the two CLR horses, Sugar Train and Mr Banks being paraded in the ring. Both have been enjoying their summer holidays, chilling out in the paddocks. They looked well although Sugar Train had developed a summer tummy, so he is now due to stay in and will start off on the walker before resuming full training. Mr Banks, who has not been out as long, will have another two weeks out.
After a photo-shoot with horses and owners, we went to the schooling lane to see Honour A Promise loose school over tyres. The lightly raced 7yo Norse Dancer mare jumped effortlessly on both reigns. Paul then gave a guided tour of the stables picking out stars such as Cantlow and Australia Day and some potential stars of the future including recent purchases at the DBS May Stores Sale. They included a lovely athletic 3yo gelding by Mountain High Known as “Ike”!
It was then time to adjourn to the garden for lunch and a few glasses of whatever took one’s fancy – the Paul Webber Prosecco/fruit punch went down particularly well! With Wimbledon being in full gear, strawberries were also an absolute must!
The afternoon finished at the behest of one of the owners with an impromptu parade of two horses available for sale!
“Ike” and a lovely filly by Presenting duly strutted their stuff. Not only did they walk but the trainer trotted them up on the beautifully manicured lawn, much to the surprised amusement of Ku!
All fed and watered, owners started to make their way home around 3pm as temperatures soared ever higher. What a wonderfully quintessentially English way to enjoy 4th July. The only thing missing were any Americans…
