LOTHARIO WINS COMFORTABLY AT KEMPTON

LOTHARIO has always been a talented horse but has had his issues.  However, tonight he showed his ability in true fashion when running out a smooth winner at Kempton by one and three quarter lengths in a mile handicap under Martin Dwyer.

This was his first win in just the five-year-old’s ninth race as he had has had his problems and wasn’t able to make his his racecourse debut until four years of age at Windsor last June.  The cleverly named Lothario (by Dark Angel out of Kisses For Me) was bought for £150,000 as a yearling and this beautifully bred grey showed his ability when second over course and distance back in November, beaten just half a length.

Unfortunately Lothario didn’t go on from then although he didn’t run badly when fifth from a wide draw last time out at Kempton.  Stablemate, Badenscoth, who was fourth that day, franked the form by winning at Wolverhampton yesterday.

Tonight, Lothario was better drawn in three and he was always travelling well under the 2006 Derby-winning jockey.  Racing in mid-division, Martin Dwyer asked for an effort two furlongs from home and switched to the inner, he made his move a furlong out.   Lothario led inside the final furlong and won comfortably from Baashiq, thereby turning around course and distance form on the runner-up.

He will have gained plenty of confidence from today’s victory and he will hopefully go on to win more races and translate some more of that natural ability onto the racecourse.

After getting off to a great start at the beginning of the year, the stable had been quiet for a few weeks.  However, Badenscoth resumed winning ways for himself and Harper Lodge Farm yesterday and it was encouraging to see Lothario follow that up tonight.  Congratulations to Michael and Heather Yarrow, whose patience has been justly rewarded.
