DANCINGINTHEWOODS, aka “Woody,” won today at Leicester, the well-backed 3/1 second favourite, under Hollie Doyle to the delight of owners, Solario Racing (Ashridge).
Hollie, rode the perfect race on the horse. The 4yo son of Garswood was initially held up per instructions behind the leaders. Pushed along he made headway two furlongs out and soon chased the leader, Grey Galleon and hit the front inside the final furlong to win by half a length from the third favourite, Able Kane, ironically ridden by Adam Kirby.
Why ironically? Well, Adam rode “Woody” last time out at Doncaster and suggested dropping him back to 6f.
This was only the third time in his 11-race career that Dancinginthewoods has raced over 6f and the first time since his juvenile days when he won on his debut on the Rowley Mile and then when he was fourth at Epsom behind Pinatubo in the Woodcote Stakes.
There is no doubt the horse does get 7f as he went close over the trip on Newmarket’s July course last summer but winning over 6f does give the horse more options. Yesterday there were just eight runners but a big sized field in which they go a decent clip should suit him ideally and hopefully there will be more to come.
It was great for Solario Racing to get Dean Ivory’s season up and running. The yard has been very quiet for many months although at home they look well and hopefully, the stable has turned the corner and can now kick on to better times ahead.
Hollie Doyle had a great afternoon at Leicester with a 135.5/1 four-timer, with wins on Bellarena Lady, Jeanette May and Jaramillo. She currently heads the jockeys table with 55 wins for the calendar year and would certainly be a live contender for this year’s jockeys’ championship.
