Twilight Son x Winifred Jo

Twilight Son x Winifred Jo

SOLARIO RACING had to wait until 8pm last night before striking for the second time this week at Tattersalls Book Three yearling sale when purchasing a “stand-out” filly by dual Group One winner, Twilight Son for just 16,000 guineas.

The bay filly is well known to Solario Racing as we first set eyes on her as a foal last July when owners went to Childwickbury Stud for a parade of mares and foals and those on view included the mare Winifred Jo and her filly foal, who was just three months old.

I went down to the stud to see her last month and she had really developed into a fine individual.  She was vetted at the sales and was described as a “stand out filly” by the vet who examined her.

She not only has the looks and conformation but the pedigree to go with out.  The sire, Twilight Son, won two 6f sprints at Group One level with success in the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock and the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Ascot.  The Henry Candy trained son of Kyllachy was also second in the Quipco British Champions Sprint Stakes at Ascot.

On the dam’s side, the mare, Winifred Jo has produced four winners from six runners including nine times winner, Dutch Heart, another nine times winner, Show Stealer, who was rated 98 and the most recent winner, Sir Maxi, who in just three two-year-old races to date, has won two and been second and is currently rated 82.  The last of these winning siblings was sold for 155,000 guineas at the breeze-up sales.

To get the filly, affectionately known as Twinkle at the stud, for just 16,000 guineas was in large part due to the fact that she was the third last lot to be sold in Book Three and many had gone home.  It may have been a long wait yesterday but the wait was worth every minute…and every penny!

“Twinkle” has gone back to Childwickbury Stud to chill out for a couple of months before going into training.  She is being syndicated in quarter shares.
