SOLARIO RACING (Childwickbury) owners were out celebrating in the glorious sunshine today as they named their 2yo filly Twilight Bay.
As is the custom, Solario Racing likes to dabble in a spot of democracy when it comes to naming its horses and during the last few days, the owners have been voting on their own suggestions for the filly by Twilight Son out of the Bahamian Bounty mare, Winifred Jo.
Unlike the latest Eurovision Song Contest in which the UK entry received the ignominious “nil points,” all eight suggested names received plenty of support but it was Twilight Bay who was the clearcut winner. Named after a town in Western Australia near the world famous Esperance beaches, the filly’s name was announced at the Naming Day, held this morning at Harper Lodge Farm before moving on to a rather fine hostelry, the appropriately named White Horse, near the offices of Solario Racing.
Owners arrived at the stables at 10.30am for coffee before going to see the filly exercise on the gallops in some welcome fine weather. She did a nice steady canter under lass, Drew Cummins, who recently led up her first winner, Dancinginthewoods, so the owners are hoping some of that Drew “magic” rubs off on the filly!
It was then back to the stables to wet the filly’s head with Champagne and canapés before a photo session with the newly named. She can be a bit spirited but the hot sunshine was enough to quell her sometimes boisterous enthusiasm and she dutifully played her part.
We all then moved on to The White Horse for a three-course lunch and inevitably the odd libation! The food and service were as ever excellent and owners all agreed it was great to be back doing something “normal!” I guess a three hour lunch told its own story!
As for Twilight Bay, she’s coming along nicely and should be ready to make her debut in a month’s time. There is one quarter share still available, so if you’d like to get involved with a horse who’s ready to run and become part of a very convivial, friendly syndicate, please call the Racing Office on 01442 877 597 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for details.
