TROPICS is one of four stable runners today, when lining up for the nine-runner 6 1/2 furlong handicap at Doncaster (4.35pm) and he’s looking to put a long losing run behind him and recapture some of the form which saw him runner-up in two Group One July Cups.
The 9yo son of Speightstown is now rated 97, having once been 116, so if he was to bounce back, he’d be a “good” thing. The question is can he resume winning ways? He’s in good form at home and won’t mind the Good to Soft conditions, so at a huge 16/1, he’s worth chancing each-way under Robert Winston. Last time out winner Muntadab looks a major threat.
The yard runs two in the 4.15 at Sandown, a mile handicap with last time out winner Blaze Of Hearts (Ted Durcan) and dual all-weather winner, Badenscoth (Jack Duern). The former at 14/1 has an each-way squeak while the latter’s form is much better on the all-weather and he’s weak in the market at 28/1.
Finally, Wotadoll runs in the 5.30 at Salisbury, a 6f handicap. The 3yo Harbour Watch filly won on good to firm at Yarmouth over the trip in July but didn’t appreciate the soft going last time out. The same may apply today for the 14/1 shot, the mount of Pat Cosgrave.
