DEAN IVORY runs three horses today, two at Nottingham and one at Brighton and while none have outstanding form chances, they could all be in the mix.
Cappananty Con starts off proceedings at Nottingham in a 12-runner 6f handicap at 2.30pm. This is just his fifth ever run on turf and all his previous form has been on the all-weather, so one is slightly guessing as to how he’ll cope with the move back to grass.
He has been in good form on the all-weather over the winter but the soft going is an unknown. The son of Zebedee has the hood reapplied and also runs in a first time tongue tie, both of which will hopefully help. Robert Winston rides the 6/1 shot in an open affair where they go 4/1 the field.
Robert is also aboard Artscape at 5pm in a five furlong handicap. A previous winner on the all-weather in a Kempton maiden over 6f, this is only his fifth ever start and his first over 5f.
The drop in distance should suit as he failed to settle last time at Windsor. Again, the going is an unknown. The co-top weight is 11/1 and will hopefully bounce back to form but maybe a more likely winner is course and distance winner, Rainbow Orse, who goes well fresh and is on a winning mark.
Finally, Harper Lodge sends out Soaring Spirits to his favourite track, Brighton, in the 5.50 in a 6f handicap. The course and distance winner usually runs well at the Sussex course and although he’s three pounds above a winning mark, Jack Duern offsets that by claiming three.
Seven go to post and he should be there or thereabouts at 7/1 in a seven runner field in which there are five course winners including four over course and distance. It’s a tricky one to call!
