THE STABLE sends out its first runners of 2018, two at Wolverhampton and three at Chelmsford and one or two look to have good each-way chances.
Bobby Vee, starts the ball rolling in the 4.35 at Wolves, a ten-runner six furlong sprint. Not the most consistent of performers, she ran well last time out after a lay-off to be fourth beaten 1 1/2 lengths. While she should come on for the run, she’s not well drawn in 10 and is weak in the market at 8/1. She does however have each-way claims if she can overcome the draw but it’s a big if!
Tangramm, voted All-Weather Horse of the Year in 2016, is a much more solid performer and winner last time out, he should be there or thereabouts in the eight runner 1m 1 1/2 furlong handicap. Charles Bishop, successful on him last time out is aboard the 10/3 shot who is well drawn in stall one.
At Chelmsford in the evening, Fighting Temeraire with Robert Winston aboard, has been well supported in the 6.45, a mile handicap. He’s not shown much of late but has been dropped nearly a stone since August and is well treated on his winning Newmarket form. The Racing Post had him in at 25/1 but he’s generally an 8/1 shot who is badly drawn in 9 of 10. If money speaks, he should go well.
Finally, the stable has Lucymai and Firmdecisions both in the 8.15, a 7f handicap. The former hacked up over course and distance last time out but has gone up 10lbs as a result. She defied a wide draw that day and is more kindly berthed in five today. She’s certainly not out of it under Jack Duern but nor is Firmdecisions, a very consistent 7f performer who is next to her today in stall six. Both are 15/2 shots but the market support has been for Firmdecisions (Robert Winston), who is well handicapped on two course and distance wins in 2016. Both should run well and it’s not easy to split them.
