SOLARIO RACING named its exciting 2yo Zebedee colt yesterday at Harper Lodge Farm and the democratically voted name was the rather appropriate Spring To Life.
Why appropriate? Well, for those of you old enough to remember the 1960s children’s programme, The Magic Roundabout, will recall that Zebedee was a jack-in-the-box with his lower body a spring. Yesterday was also a beautiful spring day and the phrase “spring to life” seems to epitomise the colt’s temperament – active, lively and willing.
Owners in the Solario Racing (Berkhamsted) syndicate met at the stables to toast the winning name with of course…champagne! We then saw him work on the gallops with another 2yo and yet again, he went well within himself alongside another 2yo colt.
Owners then had a celebratory three-course lunch at nearby St Albans’ award-winning restaurant, Freddie’s. The rioja, sauvignon blanc and rosé flowed and owners were delighted to see young Alex Humphreys, who looks after and rides the horse, join them for lunch.
After more toasts and an excellent two-and-a half-hour lunch, owners made their way back home, be it Bucks, Northants or Notts.
Spring To Life is a very forward colt who is showing plenty at home. He is on schedule to make his racecourse debut early summer. Amazingly, there are limited shares available!
