SPRING ROMANCE went down to Kempton Park yesterday morning for a racecourse gallop and he thoroughly enjoyed himself.

It was a crisp but very cold winter morning at the Sunbury track with temperatures barely above freezing, so “Neville” and his galloping companion, the nine-year-old Lancelot Du Lac, did not hang around limbering up in the pre-parade ring but went straight from the horse box to the track to warm up.

The two horses walked and trotted round to the mile start and then picked up a canter.  They went upsides at a good strong pace from the six pole and were still upsides in the home straight, two and a half from home.  Inside the final furlong, the 109-rated Lancelot Du Lac began to assert and inevitably the two stone higher rated horse finished ahead of “Neville.”

Neither horse was given a hard time and both seemed to worked within themselves.  Both horses went for this racecourse gallop to sharpen them up before returning to racing in February.  Alex who rode Spring Romance was very happy with her mount and said that he felt very differently from a year ago when she last rode him work at the track.

The 4yo son of Zebedee had a great 3yo season with four wins, two seconds and a fourth from seven starts.  He started the ball rolling at Wolverhampton in February when winning a 6f handicap off a mark of 46.  A runner-up spot back at Wolves and two wins on Lingfield’s all-weather both over six and a turf victory over five at Windsor saw him climb the handicap.  His last two races comprised a fourth at Newmarket and another second at Wolverhampton and he finished his 3yo racing rated 77.

Solario Racing (Berkhamsted) owners are hoping that after his well-deserved break, he can carry on from where he left off last season!
