SOLARIO RACING’S Spring Romance returns to the racecourse today after an absence of 191 days when lining up for his handicap debut at Wolverhampton in the 5.55.
Nine line up for the 0-60 handicap over six furlongs and the son of Zebedee, who is having his first run since being gelded last year, is the outsider of the party at 20/1.
He has done plenty of work over the winter including two racecourse gallops at Kempton since the start of the year and should not lack for fitness but in terms of winning, six months is a big ask. He is nicely drawn in five and Jack Duern rides, claiming three pounds. We are hoping the horse runs well but all the money has been for Brockey Rise from the David Evans yard.
This horse is the only winner in the field, having won at Thirsk last season off a mark of 63. While his last four runs on the all-weather have not been anything to shout about, he is down to a mark of 57, the visor is back on and Adam Kirby has been booked. Well drawn in four, one can see why he’s been backed into 5/1.
The other danger is top weight G Eye Joe, who is making his handicap debut but he had some good form in his first two runs. The James Given runner will probably not be far away.
Dean also runs Mimram today, in the 2.25 at Chelmsford, a 0-50 handicap for 3yos and upwards. Rated 50, this horse could be better than her rating. However, she has to take on older horses which is not easy at this time of year. Kieran O’Neill rides the 12/1 shot who would have an each-way squeak in a weak race. If she were to win, this would bode well for Spring Romance as they work together.
