SOLARIO RACING broke new ground yesterday when purchasing an unraced 2yo at Tattersalls prestigious Horses In Training Sale, an Aussie Rules grey colt from one of Newmarket’s most famous trainers, Sir Mark Prescott for 25,000 guineas.
It was new ground on two counts. We have never bought a 2yo before and have never purchased a grey! Hopefully, the combination will prove successful for Solario Racing and its new syndicate, whose horse will be trained by Dean Ivory.
Ordinarily, one might be wary of buying a horse from the Prescott yard only because if it had raced, then one would expect Sir Mark would have eked out every inch of improvement from the horse and if it hadn’t why was it on the market? Is it any good?
However, this stunning son of French 2000 Guineas winner, named Don’t Look Down, was one of six being consigned by Heath House Stables, the property of Exors Of The Late Mr J L C Pearce. Dean and I viewed the horse yesterday morning at Sir Mark Prescott’s yard and the trainer said that all six had to be sold.
Mr Pearce was one of racing’s great supporters and a long-standing owner-breeder, who had had horses with Sir Mark over many years. Sadly he died earlier this year, aged 98. He bred Don’t Look Down, a son of a Rainbow Quest mare, Miss Katmandu, who has produced three winners from six runners, including the full-brother, Tenzing Norgay. The cleverly named Tenzing Norgay, also trained by Sir Mark Prescott, won three times last year as a 3yo as well as being placed seven times.
Dean Ivory and Solario Racing are very excited about this colt which is being syndicated in 1/12th shares. For details, please call Racing Manager, Simon Double on 01442 877 597 or email [email protected].
