EIRENE ran a cracker on her debut at Yarmouth when third on good to firm ground but today, she encounters soft going at Doncaster in the opener, a 6f fillies’ novice due off at 2pm.
It took a while for the penny to drop but she made good progress late on and was beaten just 2 1/4 lengths in a similar contest first time out. However today’s ground conditions are totally different so one is guessing if she’ll handle them.
It looks a tricky contest with £100,000 yearling purchase, Jane Rose, making her debut for Hannon and Moore while Sardenya and Peace Prevails, both with two previous runs under their belts also look interesting.
At around 3/1 favourite, if she handles the ground, Eirene should go close under Robert Winston, although all four stable runners ran disappointingly yesterday, so a strong note of caution!
Dean also runs :Incredible Dream in the 3.10 at Yarmouth and Bobby Vee in the 5.30 at Doncaster. The former won on his handicap debut at 16/1 at Nottingham over 10 furlongs and today he is 4lbs higher in another 1m2f handicap. There should be more to come and at around 10/3, he’s worth close inspection. Dane O’Neill rides.
Bobby Vee is quite well handicapped and should handle the ground (third last time out on good to soft) but she’s weak in the market at 7/1. Interestingly, Robert Winston doesn’t ride but goes to Newmarket for a Willie Haggas newcomer, Perfect Thought in the 6.20 at Newmarket.
Steve Drowne rides Bobby Vee, one of 17 runners in the 6f handicap and with Frank’s Legacy who would have been a danger, now a non-runner, 7/1 is an attractive each-way price.
