SOLARIO RACING hosted for the second year running, a hospitality event at Huntingdon races yesterday and while Zeroshadesofgrey was only third in the Novivces’ Chase, Solario Racing owner Paul Shay from Retford won the tipster competition by a nose…or rather, one point!
As with last year’s meeting, conditions were testing and there were quite a few non-runners but there was plenty of competitive action on an eight-race card and Solario owners enjoyed a great afternoon on a private table in the Peterborough Chase Restaurant.
A champagne reception preceded a three-course lunch with wine and the gastronomic side of the afternoon concluded with a cream tea. In between, owners studiously studied the form, picking out selections for the customary Solario Racing tipster competition.
Paul was always in the hunt although Shirley Noble, also from Retford led for much of the way. It went down to the wire, a two mile bumper and the favourite, I Know U Too Well duly obliged, meaning Paul pipped Shirley by the narrowest of margins. (The Racing Manager, didn’t disgrace himself either, finishing third).
Five favourites obliged on the card, although arguably the impressive performance of the day came in the feature race, when Antartica De Thaix was a smooth winner of the Listed Mares’ Chase over two and a half miles.
A special thank you to all owners who attended as they helped raise over £150 for a new mounting block used by young riders with learning difficulties in the Special Olympics St Albans team at an equestrian college near Dean Ivory’s stables in Hertfordshire.
