ROMAN LEGION at last gets his ground today at Yarmouth (Good to Firm, Good in Places) and he is quite nicely drawn in 16 of 16, up against the running rail.
The lightly raced 3yo son of Holy Roman Emperor is having third run of the year and the 4lbs drop since Brighton should help, as should apprentice Jack Duern’s three pound claim.
It’s a competitive 0-55 handicap over 7f with six pounds separating the 16 runners and the fact they go 15/2 the field tells its own story. “Roman” is a 25/1 shot and we are looking for a competitive run today off his current mark and with the ground in his favour. He does look overpriced and it will be interesting to see if all 16 runners stand their ground for each-way purposes!
As for dangers, they are everywhere, maybe headed by Sakhee’s Gem, Caledonian Road, Slow To Hand and Chetan.
Dean also runs Best Company, a 100/1 shot in the opener, a 14-runner, 7f novice. He will have easier opportunities.
