ROMAN LEGION BACK ON TRACK

ROMAN LEGION made a very pleasing comeback at Brighton yesterday after a near six-month lay-off and conditions which did not suit.

The 3yo son of Holy Roman Emperor came fifth of eight runners in the 3yo 7f handicap, beaten just six and three-quarter lengths.

The rains hit the Sussex track with a vengeance during the course of the afternoon changing the official going from Good to Firm to Good but the ground was riding on the soft side of good by the time “Roman” hit the track.

The race was a commentator’s nightmare as the sea fret enveloped the course but Roman Legion was mentioned in the home straight and indeed hit the front a furlong from home but tired towards the finish.

Jockey John Fahy was very complimentary about the horse but said he’d prefer better ground.

It was great to see “Roman” back on the course and what he lacks in size, he more than makes up for in attitude and desire.
