Lancelot Du Lac – first winner of the year for Dean Ivory

HARPER LODGE FARM may have been relatively quiet towards the end of 2016 which is why there wasn’t too much to shout about in this column but the yard has started 2017 with a bang with two winners from its first five runners.

Lancelot Du Lac,  Dean’s first runner of the New Year when lining up in a 5f handicap at Chelmsford on Thursday and the son of Shamardal won comfortably under Robert Winston to give the 7yo his ninth career victory.

Next Day, Eljaddaaf, again under Robert Winston,  hacked by four lengths at Kempton over 6f, his fourth course success and his fifth win inside a year.

Firmdecisions and Secret Bird also ran Chelmsford on Thursday and they were second and third respectively, so four out of the first five runners were in the money!

Today, Dean sends out Dors Law and Pearly Queen in the same race, a handicap over 1m 1 1/2 furlongs. at Wolverhamptonn (3pm).   Both are ridden by apprentices, Lulu Stanford and Jack Duern respectively and the former, looks to have the better chance on the book.  Drawn well in three, the Lawman filly has an each-way chance at 7/1 while Pearly Queen has more to prove at 22/1.
