REVIEW OF THE WEEK: LUCYMAI BACK TO FORM

Robert Winston - won on Lucymai

Robert Winston – won on Lucymai

LUCYMAI came back to winning form with success at Chelmsford last Monday under Robert Winston and so recorded her second career victory.

She won on her debut at 50/1 as a juvenile back in June 2015 and had been slipping down the weights. Her second win was achieved at rather less generous odds of 6/1 but it was still a welcome success for owner Roger Beadle.

At the same meeting, 2yo Mimram made her debut and ran nicely to be fourth, beaten just over eight lengths.  Solario Racing’s Spring Romance did not have as good a debut at Windsor, when he was slowly out of the stalls and lost valuable lengths at the start.  He is a lot better than his finishing position would suggest and jockey Adam Kirby liked the horse very much.

Of the other eight stable runners last week, Nezar was fourth at Ascot but one or two disappointed and ran below expectations.  This time of year often sees a dip in the fortunes of Harper Lodge Farm, which can be attributable in part at least to the abundance of rape seed in the area.  Hopefully, we’ll get some rain soon leading to a dampening of pollen in the air.
